Sales Gamification

Sales gamification is the practice of applying game mechanics to sales work: competitions, leaderboards, achievements, and rewards, so that measurable performance data becomes something reps engage with daily rather than review passively.

What it is

The discipline draws on established motivational psychology, including Richard Bartle's player-type framework (Killers, Achievers, Socializers, Explorers) and the distinction between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Roughly 90% of a sales team sits in the middle or bottom performance bands at any given time; gamification is specifically designed to lift that majority, not just reward the top decile that would perform well regardless.
